We can help with New Year’s resolutions

Happy New Year! 

As we usher in 2018, we all know that with a new year comes resolutions to break bad habits and, most importantly, establish good ones. 

For many people, the promise of a New Year’s resolution marks a commitment to embracing a healthier lifestyle.

This could mean losing weight, gaining strength, or on the advice of a physician, improving your overall health and well-being. 

At the Y, we know that the month of January brings a renewed commitment by many people to find ways to keep their New Year’s resolutions.

I am happy to say that we are here to help!

During the month of January, the Morris Community YMCA will be waiving its joiner’s fee for anyone who becomes a member.

We extend this offer at the beginning of each year as a way to encourage others to kick-start their fitness goals.

Once you become a new member, our team will provide you with a free fitness consultation so that we can learn more about your goals and so that you can learn more about what the Y has to offer.

The Y is also committed to helping members maintain their New Year’s resolutions by checking in with them regularly through a variety of formats to share information on new classes of interest, programs for the family and even healthy recipes to complement their health and wellness goals.   

In 2018, the Morris Community YMCA will be introducing a number of new group exercise formats to its weekly schedule.

As a Y member, you will be able to take advantage of more than 25 hours a week of group exercise classes, which are all included as part of your monthly membership. 

In addition to these classes, the
Y offers a variety of small group training programs for an additional fee for those members who are looking to take their workouts to the next level.

These fitness programs include something for everyone and feature blended formats of TRX, yoga, cycling classes, sports performance training for teens, weight training classes for women and line dancing for members of all ages. 

Beyond the focus of healthy living, the Y is also hard at work throughout our community in many other ways.

Over the past year, we experienced record enrollment in our youth development programs, which included our summer day camp and before and after school programs.

We also teamed up with the Grundy Area Vocational Center to offer new specialty camps for fifth-through eighth-grade students in computers, cooking, building trades and automotive maintenance. 

Our social club for active older adults, known as Fab 50, continued to grow over the last year, enjoying a number of field trips and welcoming guest speakers.

With a schedule of new programs slated for the coming year, 2018 promises to be another eventful year at the Morris YMCA.

As we look forward to the New Year ahead, like all of you, our team at the YMCA will take time to set our own resolutions for 2018. 

While we have many new objectives for the coming months, one goal always remains the same – our commitment to strengthen our community. 

I invite you to stop in during the month of January and learn more about what the Y can do for you and your family. 

Hopefully, you’ll discover that we can help you not only keep your New Year’s resolutions, but also help you find new opportunities to strengthen your spirit, mind and body.
