MORRIS – Major league baseball fans mark the beginning of the season in February when pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training.

For high school baseball enthusiasts, the start of the year has been marked by the Morris Runnin’ Redskins Baseball Bash, put on by the Baseball Boosters.

This year, that will take place from
4 to 8 p.m. March 10 at the Morris Veterans of Foreign Wars field, located at
309 McKinley St. in Morris.

To get folks in a baseball frame of mind, the bash will feature ball park dining, including brats, hot dogs, pizza, bash potatoes, treats, refreshments and more.

Throughout the evening, a drawdown will be taking place, starting at 5 p.m.

A total of 350 drawdown tickets will be sold for $25 each. Every 25th number that gets pulled receives $25. The 325th number pulled gets $50. Third place is $200, second place is $300 and first place receives $1,500.

During the night, there will also be silent auctions and live auctions, as well as raffles for various items.

Among those prizes up for auction or raffle, said Morris Baseball Booster President Cathy Vejr, will be
a two-night stay at a lake home near
the University of Notre Dame with two Notre Dame football tickets, Morris baseball spiritwear, car care buckets, service and car wash certificates, various wine and liquor baskets, manicures, massages, and hair care certificates, a black-and-white Wrigley Field framed print, helmets and jerseys autographed by the Morris baseball team, coolers and gift baskets with a variety of game day snacks and drinks

Also included in the evening will be a 50/50 raffle.

Funds from the baseball bash go to the Morris Community High School baseball program, and are used for such things as field improvements, equipment and uniforms.

Tickets for the drawdown have already sold out, Vejr said, but those still interested in attending the bash can pay $10 at the door the night of the event and have dinner and participate in the auctions and raffles.
